Sneaker Anatomy for Shoemakers

Upper

The fabric or leather parts that make up the top of your sneaker. 

Outsole

The rubber cup sole that you will stich and or glue your upper to.

Topline

The top line is the shape of the foot opening on your shoe. The top line is what makes your shoe a lo-cut or high cut.  

Vamp

The Vamp is the flat part of the upper that is above you toes. 

Quarter

The quarter is the side panel of you shoe, A great place for a logo design. 

Tongue

The tongue is the floating pad on the top of your foot. 

Eyelets

You will need a place to secure your shoe laces. You will need a punch and eyelet setter to install eyelets.

 

Bindings

To finish your top line you can use a bindings edge or turned out seam. 

Toe Puff

The toe puff is a thin reinforcing material that sets the shape of your shoe and makes a nice protective place for your toes!  

Heel Counter

The heel counter is a firm plastic sheet that holds you foot in place. This help make a shoe stable for every day wear.

Footbed

The footbed is a soft foam pad that makes your shoe comfortable. 

Lasting Board

The lasting board is a firm foundation that makes you shoe more supportive and stable.
